I'm perfectly happy with Lenovo updating the chips inside this laptop and keeping all else the same, as it did with the new 8th Gen version.

Everything that made the previous model the best business laptop returns; The new Thinkpad X1 Carbon has fantastic p and 4K display options, an unrivaled keyboard, a sleek yet durable chassis, and a generous selection of ports.

With new rivals like the HP Elite Dragonfly and Asus ExpertBook B delivering longer battery life in a similarly portable chassis, Lenovo's if-it-ain't-broke approach might not be so successful next time around.

But for now, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon remains the best laptop for enterprise users, and one of the best laptops on the market, period. I used Lenovo's complicated website to determine the price of our review units. The X1 Carbon is a stylish, featherweight laptop that brilliantly balances modern aesthetics with practical features. Nearly identical to the early 7th Gen models, Lenovo made only a few subtle tweaks to give its flagship business notebook a consumer-friendly facelift.

A new logo on the lid puts a large "X1" stamp under the iconic ThinkPad brand. Don't worry, the "i" still illuminates red. Everything else is the same. On the deck are two speaker grilles flanking dual hinges.

The signature ThinkPad red hue accents the pointing stick or TrackPoint and the left-and-right click buttons, and there is a diagonal ThinkPad logo on the right side of the touchpad, next to a tiny fingerprint sensor.

Lenovo sent us two models to review, the standard version with a matte-black coating and the carbon edition with a carbon fiber weave on the lid that emphasizes the materials used within. The inside of both versions is a solid matte-black with a pearlescent sheen under certain lighting.

Improved resistance to fingerprints is one of the improvements I'd like to see in future models. The laptop looks great until you touch it and leave behind smudgy fingerprints. Also, the bezels around the X1 Carbon's display particularly the bottom bezel could be trimmed down a bit. Despite these minor qualms, the X1 Carbon has one of my favorite laptop designs, rivaled in the business space by only the new HP Elite Dragonfly.

I love the sleek shape and stealthy finishes of the X1 Carbon, but there is an irresistible allure to its stunning blue rival. The X1 Carbon remains remarkably lightweight for a inch laptop and even weighs less than some inch models.

But it's no longer in a class of its own. The use of magnesium alloy has spurred a trend toward lighter laptops, with the featherweight Acer Swift 5 and LG Gram 14 coming in at around 2 pounds.

Unlike some of those competitors, the X1 Carbon feels sturdy. Reinforced with carbon fiber, the X1 Carbon doesn't flex at the keyboard, creak at the hinges or show a scratch after being lightly brushed.Your question might be answered by sellers, manufacturers, or customers who bought this product. Windows reports that "No Audio Output Device is installed".

I've tried the deleting the devices and I've tried updating the drivers. I've downloaded and installed the Conexant drivers from the Lenovo support site. I even tried doing a Windows reset. Nothing made a dent and the problem persists. When entering the volume icon within the taskbar it is marked with an red 'X' and states no playback device installed.

The latest drivers from Lenovo support pages as well as Windows default drivers do not solve the issue. United States of America. I also encounter this similar problem. However, what happened to my speaker was that it suddenly crackle and made a lot of noise while I was playing music on my in built speakers.

I restarted my computer and from then onthe No Audio Output Device is Installed problem has continued to persist. Pressing my mic mute button does not work as well. I contacted the Lenovo Support Team and the onsite engineer had to come down quite a few times and still we are unable to solve the issue.

We changed the motherboard, did a reformat of the computer, replaced the sound card and ultimately the speakers. However, this problem still persists and the engineer has not encountered such a problem before as well. I tried many times to uninstall the sound driver from the device manager and reinstall it again but the problem still persists.

I'm at my wit's end regarding this issue. Not sure if this helps but I was able to connect to my bluetooth speaker and the sound was projected from the bluetooth speaker. It would be great if someone solved this issue:. Nope, My PC is still not fixed.

Even after swapping out the speakers, the problem persist. What's worse is that the computer detect that the speakers are not plugged in even though it has been. The engineer who came down several times to help me fix this problem is also out of options.

He said that he will try to get his hands on something which can let him replace the different parts individually to see what is the problem. But after so many attempts, I don't have much hope already. For now, I have to connect to a bluetooth speaker to have audio. My inbuilt mic does not work as well even though the speaker and the mic are wired at different positions:.

Hi- did you find a solution to this? I just received my brand new "shiny" x1 and dont have an audio device being detected either My laptop was fixed yesterday. Turns out after swapping everything, the issue was with the motherboard. Do contact the lenovo support team so that they can help u swap out your motherboard. But before you do that, do try to uninstall and reinstall your audio drivers to see if it works. Note: The first time round, the technician replaced the motherboard but it did not work.Lenovo has a few classes of ThinkPad laptops, each aimed at different types of people.

The ThinkPad X1 CarbonGen 8 looks and feels very similar to the slim Gen 7 model, maintaining its mix of magnesium alloy and carbon fiber making up the chassis. Besides the thinner design, the X1 Carbon looks a lot like the T, both of which highlight the usual iconic black chassis with red accents as adorns the majority of ThinkPads.

Both also enjoy the soft-touch feel that makes carrying and using the typical ThinkPad so comfortable. The T, however, is constructed of plastic with glass fiber backing. In terms of their keyboards, you might imagine both laptops to enjoy identical ThinkPad goodness. It still feels great, but if you want the traditional ThinkPad keyboard, then the T is the better choice. Both offer backlit and non-backlit versions.

Both laptops sport the typical red TrackPoint nubbin in the middle of the display with an extra set of buttons above the touchpad. Both laptops also support Windows 10 Hello password-less login via fast and accurate fingerprint scanners, with ThinkShutter privacy panel that slides over the webcam for some extra privacy. Display options is one area where the two laptops serious diverge.

About this item

The X1 Carbon offers a host of display options, from Full HD x panels with low-power, or anti-glare touch support, up to a 4K x display with nits of brightness and Dolby Vision high dynamic range HDR support.

The T is no slouch, however — two USB 3. It, too, has a full-size HDMI 1. The T, on the other hand, offers primarily eighth-gen Intel processors, starting with the four-core iU. The most advanced T version does come with a 10th-gen iU chip, but its currently out of stock and that requires the maximum upgrade for the T This is a compromise that the T makes to remain the more affordable laptop, but it is a notable decrease in power.

But what about GPUs? Both models offer integrated Intel UHD graphics, and at this time neither laptop allows you to move beyond this option. At one point, the T could be upgraded to a more advanced discrete GeForce card, but this does not appear to be an option at this time. The X1 Carbon is a much lighter, smaller, and thinner laptop than the T The X1 Carbon is significantly smaller than the T despite both laptops using inch displays.

The T is wider Finally, the X1 Carbon weighs 2. That makes the X1 Carbon a more modern and attractive design. The T comes with a 50Whr battery rated up to However, the processor and displays decisions you make will also have a big impact on battery life, so take these specs into account alongside other decisions. However, if you can afford the upgrade, then the X1 Carbon is certainly the superior machine, and current deals mean that there is very little price differentiation between the two options, so we highly suggest the Gen 8 Carbon model.
